Tateshina Plateau Barakura English Garden
A healing space decorated with the gentleness of flowers.
Experience an authentic English garden in the Tateshina Highlands, with their environment not dissimilar to that of Great Britain.
Opened in 1990 as Japan's first authentic English-style garden, it was created under the unified design of owner Kei Yamada, with British experts handling everything from design to stonework and gardening. Initially, 2,500 plants were transplanted from England, and they have grown beautifully, further enhancing the garden's charm along with the plants planted by Yamada herself. In the garden, flowers that symbolize English gardens, such as old roses and fritillaria, bloom in profusion, harmonizing beautifully with the natural environment of Tateshina, which is close to England. Another attraction is being able to enjoy an elegant afternoon tea set at Restaurant or cafe on the premises.
