Atsumi Peninsula's famous melons: a must-try in summer

Image
Atsumi Peninsula is one of the leading melon producing areas in Japan, where various varieties of melons such as Earl's melon, Takami melon, and Yellow King are cultivated. The harvested melons have a mellow fragrance and melt-in-your-mouth flesh, making them a perfect summer treat. Local direct sales shops and roadside stations offer tastings and shipping for gifts.
There are seven farms* on the Atsumi Peninsula where you can pick melons, and you can enjoy melon picking from early June to late September. Some farms even offer all-you-can-eat melon! Cafes and sweets shops also offer parfaits and juices made with luxurious melon. Now is the time to try this exquisite fruit while it's in season.
