What is Hyakumansan's motif? Visit the silent shrine lined with daruma dolls

A small, historic shrine just a 5-minute walk from Kanazawa Station

When it comes to sightseeing in Kanazawa, Kenrokuen Garden and Higashi Chaya District are famous, but there are also many other attractive spots scattered around the area close to the station. One of these is Yasue Hachiman Shrine and Kanazawa Suitengu Shrine. Located just a five-minute walk from the Kenrokuen Exit (East Exit) of Kanazawa Station, once you step inside the shrine grounds you'll be enveloped in a tranquility that will make you forget the hustle and bustle of the city.

Yasue Hachiman Shrine is said to have been founded in 939 AD and has been loved by local people since ancient times. It is believed to bring blessings such as long-lasting good fortune in battle, protection from evil, safe childbirth and fertility, and even today locals can be seen quietly praying at the shrine.

A unique space where you will be greeted by many Daruma dolls

One of the reasons this shrine is attracting attention is its Daruma dolls.
In a small building in a corner of the temple grounds, there are rows of daruma dolls of various sizes lined up. The sight is somehow cute and mysterious. You can feel the wishes that are put into each and every daruma's face, gently soothing the hearts of all who visit.

This daruma doll is called "Kaga Hachiman Okiagari" and has come to be loved as a symbol of good health and safety for the home because of its ability to quickly get up even after falling over. Due to its cuteness and good luck, it is popular as a souvenir and is also the model for Ishikawa 's tourism promotional character, "Hyakuman-san." Hyakuman-san's distinctive round shape and gorgeous decorations strongly reflect elements of this traditional daruma doll.

Also known as Suitengu Shrine - Blessings for safe childbirth and fertility

Yasue Hachimangu Shrine is also worshipped as Kanazawa Suitengu Shrine, and is an important place of prayer, especially for those praying for safe childbirth and fertility. Ema plaques hung within the shrine grounds are carefully inscribed with prayers for family happiness and new life. It is a place where you can calm your mind and feel a warmth as you quietly pray in front of the shrine.

Yasue Hachiman Shrine and Kanazawa Suitengu Shrine are filled with Kanazawa's history and healing. Why not experience the hidden charms that are a little different from the glamorous tourist spots?
