Genbikei and Geibikei

Enjoy the beauty of two different valleys

Ichinoseki, located in the south of Iwate, is home to two stunningly beautiful valleys woven by nature over the course of many years, both of which have been designated as historic sites, places of scenic beauty and natural monuments. Genbikei Gorge is a 2km long river that flows along the Iwai River, which originates from Mount Kurikoma, and features a diverse landscape of oddly shaped rocks and waterfalls. You can enjoy strolling along the riverside footpath. Geibikei Gorge is famous for its cliffs towering about 100m on both banks, and for boat rides back and forth on a single pole on the gentle-flowing Satetsu River while listening to the boatman sing "Geibi Oiwake." Each valley shows different faces as the seasons change.
