Alps Azumino National Government Park, Horigane and Hotaka area

The rural landscape and the wooded areas create two distinct zones that convey the original scenery of Azumino.

The Horikane-Hotaka area of the 353-hectare national park, spanning Azumino City, Omachi City, and Matsukawa Village, is comprised of two zones: the "Rural Culture Zone" and the "Satoyama Culture Zone." With the Northern Alps as a backdrop, visitors are greeted by different flower fields each season: colorful tulip fields spreading across terraced meadows from mid-April to late May, sunflowers in summer, and cosmos in autumn. At "Azumino School" in the "Rural Culture Zone," there are a variety of programs for families to enjoy, such as science classes where Azumino's char and trout are displayed in aquariums, and art classes where you can experience crafts using stones and thinned wood. The dog run in the plaza in front of the suspension bridge is also a popular spot for visitors with their dogs. Meanwhile, in the "Satoyama Culture Zone," watermills and farmhouse-style gazebos are scattered about, creating a relaxed landscape reminiscent of Azumino in the 1950s. With winter illuminations not to be missed, this vast field can be enjoyed throughout the year.
