Misogi Shrine
The main shrine of ancient Shinto is enveloped in silence.
Misogi Shrine is a prestigious shrine that conveys the traditional Japanese spirit of "misogi." Misogi is the profound secret of ancient Shinto, which emphasizes purifying the mind and body and living each day joyfully and vibrantly. Misogi training is regularly held on the shrine grounds, and this spirit is still passed down to many people today. The main hall, which enshrines the principal deity Amaterasu Omikami, is an authentic Shinto-style shrine built using Aomori cypress. The beautiful appearance, which was built by shrine carpenters over approximately three years, gently cleanses the hearts of those who visit to pray. The Noh stage, "Nohgakuden," floating on the sacred pond, is also famous for the "Yatsugatake Takigi Noh" performance, which takes place on August 3rd every year as the eve of the annual grand festival. There is also a wide variety of amulets available, such as the "Misogi Omamori" which is imbued with the blessings of misogi, and the "Kotsu Anzen Takara Tsubo" which is prayed for for safe travels. If you pray while taking deep breaths, the peace of mind during your stay will surely become even more serene.
